Kindness

About this study

Chrēstotēs is one of those words English doesn't quite capture. It's the kindness that's actually useful — the right thing in the right moment, neither too soft nor too sharp. It overlaps with Hebrew chesed (covenant loyal-love) and tov (good).

The KJV translation "gentleness" causes confusion with the eighth fruit (prautes, also "gentleness" or "meekness"). This study sorts that out — and helps you see chrēstotēs as the Christ-shaped active goodness toward others.

You'll see this fruit in Jesus with the woman at the well, with the children, with Zacchaeus. You'll see it in Holy Spirit's gentleness with the disciples. And you'll learn how to grow it — not by willpower, but by yielding.
