About this study
Prautes is one of the most misunderstood words in Christian vocabulary. The KJV translates it "meekness," and modern ears hear that as weakness — meek as in mild, timid, doormat.
It's nothing of the kind. Prautes is strength under control. The Greeks used it for a war horse trained to obey its rider in the chaos of battle. Jesus calls it blessed in the Beatitudes. Moses, "the meekest man on earth," led a nation of millions out of slavery.
This study sorts out the language, sets prautes apart from chrēstotēs (kindness), and walks through Jesus' own model of strength fully yielded to the Father.
For the believer who has confused gentleness with passivity. For the leader. For anyone who has learned that power without surrender is dangerous.
